Let's Talk
Supporting Young People’s Mental Health and Wellbeing
Introduction: Let’s Talk is a vital mental health service provided by City Health Care Partnership CIC, aimed at supporting young people aged 16-29 in Hull who are currently unemployed and not in education or training. As part of the Springboard Youth Employment Initiative Programme, Let’s Talk offers therapeutic support and intervention to individuals experiencing mental and emotional health difficulties, such as anxiety, low mood, and low self-esteem. Our service is dedicated to providing person-centred support through a team of Cognitive Behavioural Therapists and Support Time Recovery Workers.
Our Mission: At Let’s Talk, our mission is to enhance the mental health and emotional wellbeing of young people in Hull by providing accessible, compassionate, and effective support. We aim to empower individuals to overcome their mental health challenges, build confidence, and achieve a better quality of life.
What We Do: Let’s Talk provides a range of services tailored to meet the needs of young people dealing with mental health issues. Our support is offered one-to-one through face-to-face sessions or over the telephone, ensuring that each individual receives the care and attention they need. We also offer a variety of group support options designed to foster social interaction, build confidence, and improve mood.
Allotment Group: This social group is aimed at building confidence and improving mood through gardening. Participants can engage in activities such as growing fruit and vegetables, helping to build allotment structures, or simply enjoying the fresh air and social interaction. The group meets every Tuesday afternoon at Newland Avenue Allotments, and no prior gardening experience is needed.
Behavioural Activation Group: This activity-based group focuses on increasing young people’s sense of pleasure and achievement. The group meets every Thursday afternoon, alternating between engaging in enjoyable activities (such as bowling, arts & crafts, or park visits) and participating in workshops that cover psychology-related topics, such as overcoming anxiety or challenging negative thoughts.
Mental Health First Aid: Let’s Talk offers an accredited course that trains participants to become Mental Health First Aiders. This course is available in a Lite format (3 hours) and a Full format (2 days), providing valuable skills to support mental health in the community.
Who We Serve: Let’s Talk is dedicated to serving young people aged 16-29 who live in Hull, are currently unemployed, and are not engaged in any other form of education or training. Our services are specifically designed to support individuals who are facing mental and emotional health challenges and need guidance to navigate these difficulties.
A Collaborative Approach: Our approach at Let’s Talk is built on collaboration between our expert team of Cognitive Behavioural Therapists, Support Time Recovery Workers, and other mental health professionals. By working together, we ensure that each individual receives comprehensive, personalised support that addresses their unique needs and circumstances.
How We Deliver and Assess Support: Support at Let’s Talk is tailored to each individual’s needs. During an initial assessment, our team will discuss and agree on the most appropriate methods of support, which may include one-to-one sessions, group activities, or a combination of both. Assessment and delivery are flexible, with options for face-to-face meetings, telephone calls, or video sessions, depending on what works best for the individual.
Our Facilities: Let’s Talk sessions and activities are held in accessible, community-based settings throughout Hull, ensuring that our services are within easy reach of those who need them. For example, the Allotment Group takes place at the Newland Avenue Allotments, providing a peaceful outdoor space for participants to engage in therapeutic gardening.
Events: In addition to our regular group sessions, Let’s Talk participates in various community events to promote mental health awareness and engage with the wider community. These events offer an opportunity for young people to learn more about our services, meet the team, and get involved in activities that support their mental wellbeing.
Supporting Our Work: Let’s Talk is part of the broader efforts of the City Health Care Partnership CIC to support the mental health of the Hull community. We work closely with Hull City Council’s Springboard Youth Employment Initiative to reach young people in need.
